Artist Bio:
Isabella Rodriguez (b. 1994) lives and works in Miami, FL. She graduated from the
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2016.
Rodriguez’s paintings explore space, time, familiarity, and mystery through the use of
light and color. Color becomes the tool with which she creates light and shadows. By
playing with shadows and multiple light sources, she engages viewers to question
their own relationship with the world around them. Drawing inspiration from cinema,
particularly the nuanced framing seen in films, Isabella adeptly demonstrates how a
few key details can weave an entire narrative. Much like Hitchcock’s Rear Window,
where the intricate lives of characters are revealed through glimpses from their
windows, Rodriguez conveys similar narratives through her strategic use of lighting
and the depiction of everyday objects and spaces. She deliberately leaves room for
intrigue and curiosity, maintaining a balance between specificity and mystery that
keeps her work both relatable and enigmatic.
